Are Your Words & Heart Aligned? Part 2

Dream It, Believe it, Achieve it

How many times have you seen these words: Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it. You may even have used it as a profile picture on one of your social media platforms...I know I have.

But there is so much more to it than just saying these words or putting it on a coffee mug. It has to come from a belief that's deep-seated in your heart. If you don't really believe it, there is no way you will really achieve it.

A quick recap. In the first part of this series, we read about doubting Thomas - as he has sadly come to be known.

Thomas chose to believe what he was hearing out on the streets. Those same crowds who were shouting 'Crucify Him' may still have been celebrating the death of Jesus and the fear that he, along with his friends could be next was terrifying. Peter had already denied Jesus just a few hours before, this same pressure may have been plaguing Thomas.  What if they were next?

Satan was going to use any opportunity he could to sow doubt and confusion and planting thoughts in Thomas' mind that being raised from the dead was impossible, or that it was just too late. The Messiah had been crucified and buried, what were the chances He was going to be able to save them now?

This was even after all his closest friends confirmed that they had already seen the risen Christ. He allowed what was in his mind to fill him with doubt and fear.

How often do we do this in our own lives? We are stuck in a situation and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Everything feels heavy and anxiety takes over. Instead of switching on a sermon, or praise and worship, we watch a movie or speak to a friend who does not encourage us instead sows seeds such as: What if....What if the situation gets worse? What will you do?
What if you have to go for chemo and it does not work? What if you lose your house because you can't pay your bills?

Somehow, as humans, we find comfort in uncertainty instead of looking to the One who loves us so much, He sent His Son to die for us.

Unless we fill our hearts with the Word of God so that our faith can grow as a result, our minds will be filled with doubt, worry, anxiety and fear.

Again, this is a choice.

Romans 10:17. ‘So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ (NKJV)

When we focus on the Word and what God says; When we spend time meditating on it, mulling it over, memorising it, and speaking it, faith will start to arise and will cast out the thoughts of worry and fear that can so easily plague us.

God wants us to pivot our thoughts around the fact that He is good. To me, the very fact that I have a relationship with Him is my greatest reward. And when I seek after Him, the more of Him I will get to  experience.

So what does this have to do with our words and what we believe?

Well, Everything!

Luke 6:45:

'A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.' NKJV

Let's break this scripture down into bite sized pieces.

When God made Adam and Eve, He declared that it was 'Very Good.' Sin, only entered the world after this and because of the consequence of this disobedience we are, thereafter, all born into sin. God cannot be aligned with anything related to sin because God is good (Mark 10:18), and in order to redeem us from this sinful nature and bring us back into a relationship with Him, God sends Jesus to die for us, raises Him up from death and brings us back into His goodness and right standing with Him (righteousness) - but only if we choose to accept this amazing gift of grace. We are made the righteousness (Brought back into right-standing with God) when we are saved and choose Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We are in essence, Justified (Just as if you've never sinned).

What then is this good treasure of his heart? This is the Word of God that has been established in your heart (spirit) & soul. (Soul being your mind, will, emotions and intellect).  How does it become established?  This comes by spending time reading and hearing the Word. Praying, speaking and living out what God's word teaches us and listening to the voice of God speak to you and being led by the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. The good treasure therefore refers to the life changing & life giving word of God - ultimately, Jesus himself as he is referred to as the Word in John 1:1.

This simply put, is the result of what is in our heart. If you squeeze and orange - orange juice comes out right? What come out when you're squeezed? If you are put under pressure regarding a challenging situation in your life, what are the words that spill out of your mouth? If you are doing all the things I mentioned above, like spending time in the word, memorising scripture, speaking it, living it every day - then naturally, what will come out when you are in a difficult situation is faith-filled Words and actions, because the truth and the revelation of what God teaches us has been established in your heart. Essentially - this 'good' is also anything done in Faith.

But so too, the opposite is true when we read the rest of the scripture:

This can also be translated as being a 'sinful man out of the sinful treasure of his heart brings forth ...more sin'.

A sinful (wo)man will be someone who does not live under the covering of God's grace and is not saved. Her answers are found in the world, is governed by the news of the day, gossip-ridden updates from friends, lies from the enemy - everything contrary to God's word. etc.

She brings forth evil (sin) because it is what is in her heart. We can therefore say that sin is also anything we do not do in faith.

Everything we do therefore is amplified by what we put in our hearts - and what comes out.

Take time to think about what you’re putting in your heart. Are you watching movies or tv series more than you spend time in the word?

A good way to check is to use an app which tracks your screen time. With technology the way it is, many people have smartphones which can track how much time you’re spending on certain things like Netflix or social media.

If you find you’re spending hours watching (like I have done before), yet you’re always saying that you don’t have time to read your bible, then maybe it’s time to stop and take stock of what is really important to you.

Life is a choice. I pray you'll Choose Life.

Let’s leave it here for now and we’ll follow on with the next part of this series next week.

Have a great weekend.

Lots of love

Love Team MWOV
