Balancing Life God's way

‘And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.’ Colossians 3:23-24 (NJKV)

The above scripture speaks volumes to me and many of my years spent working has been in my own strength leading to feelings of failure, exhaustion and overwhelm, all because I did not want to disappoint other people.  I always felt that I was letting someone down no matter what decision I made. If I said NO to working late, I was letting my boss down, and if I said YES to staying late and meeting a deadline, I was letting my family down.

This is most probably why I love having my own business - so that I can focus on WHY I do what I do, rather than focusing on ticking a box and pleasing everyone. Because I am focused on my WHY - I know I am in the will of the Father.

Your PASSION is what you enjoy doing (eg. being an accountant can be your passion), but your PURPOSE or CALLING is WHY You Do it.

I am so privileged to have my own blog and online shop, and write to my heart’s content. What get's me up everyday is knowing that I am fulfilling the purpose that God has placed on my life.

But as many Christian entrepreneurs and employees learn, there is a fine balance between working your fingers to the bone where you feel that you've been spat out by a machine at the end of the month with little to no reward, and getting to the end of the month feeling accomplished because you know God has called you to the work you’re doing, whatever that may be.

When Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden, life was simple and enjoyable. They had everything they needed and could ever want. What bliss. But as soon as they stepped out of alignment with the Father, life became hard, work became labour and everything they were to do was to be a struggle.

This scripture is a reminder that when lives are aligned with God and His word; we are doing things in His strength rather than our own, we can have and experience what Adam and Eve first did in the garden of Eden.

It's when we step out of the boundaries which God sets for us, that work becomes burdensome, tiresome and a chore. Depression lurks in every dark corner when you're unhappy with where you spend most of your day.

Is your Life as Balanced as you want it to be? We'd love to know your thoughts, so why not leave us a note on Facebook or share a comment below how you have been affected by this. We would love to hear from you.

It’s taken me a long time to realise that God wants us to have balance so that we don’t experience burn out, become discouraged or have the mom-guilt that goes with investing time in your business or your job. He rested on the seventh day after all. Even though we know this, have heard this, do we do this?

It’s easy to become overwhelmed with negative thoughts when you are not enjoying what you are doing, or if you’re doing it purely for the pay check at the end of the month. But let’s be realistic, we all need to earn an income. But working to earn your income and doing so to God’s glory with work-life balance vs doing it all in your own strength are two different things.

Today I want to share 10 scriptures that help me keep my focus where it needs to be and reminds me to do it in God's strength and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I hope it will do the same for you.
