Time For Your Life Check-Up

woman sitting on couch writing down notes
For those of you who have children, you may  be familiar with the tv series ‘Doc McStuffins’.
A few years ago we bought my little girl a microphone which played the theme tune. She had so much fun singing along while pretending to be a doctor, but after a while, I was seriously starting to regret getting the mic as it only played one tune!!  I know you can see where I was going with that.

However…The song really got me thinking about life in general.

It’s wise to say that, as women, we all need to get our annual checks done in order to prevent any health issues in the future. But this song made me think about it a bit deeper than just a physical check-up.

For fun - let’s use the words of the song as a guide as we go through what would be healthy for us to consider from a spiritual perspective.

The Doc is in!

In Romans 10:17, the bible is quite clear that Faith only comes by hearing the Word of God.

Ask yourself?  Who or what have you been listening to?

Are you surrounding yourself with people who speak scriptural truths, positive, encouraging and life-changing words into your life? Or are you hooked on the news and feeling more anxious and fearful by the day? What gossip are you listening to and is this impacting your relationships with those around you?

What you listen impacts how you grow in your Christian walk. Make sure that you’re listening to the Word and find people that speak life into your heart.

What are your eyes focusing on? I am a big believer in vision boarding and seeing your dreams and goals in front of you all the time. My life is living proof that a vision board works!

Here are two different versions of Habakkuk 2:2 in which the bible encourages us to write down your dreams and keep it in front of you.

‘Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.’  NKJV

‘Then the Lord answered me and said, “Write down the special dream on stone so that one may read it in a hurry.’  NLV

Do you have a vision board up where you can see it? (Read: Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Are you following God’s instruction to keep the Word (law of God) in front of you and meditate (speak it) day and night.  (Read Joshua 1: 7-9)

- Stop. Look. Listen.

Life is so busy. Period.  But with all the busy-ness, it’s easy to lose sight of our goals and dreams and continue down a path without checking to see if we’re still on the right track.

Ask yourself: Are you still moving in the right direction? Have your finances, relationships, or work/business situation stagnated or have you grown in these areas?

Stop: Have you stopped to take a breath and made time to rest and reset your spirit, soul (mind, will, emotions) and your body?

Look - Have you taken stock of where you’ve been, where you are and where you are going lately?

Listen - Have you asked the Holy Spirit for guidance for the way forward, especially if you’ve gone off track a bit? Maybe you’re meant to go in a completely different direction, or maybe God wants to affirm that you are on the right path and remind you to slow down and enjoy the journey.

Why not take a moment to do that now. Make a list of how you have changed (good or bad) in the following areas, and commit to taking the necessary steps to grow and increase and change direction if you must.

  1. Spiritually
  2. Mentally
  3. Physically
  4. Relationships
  5. Career
  6. Socially
  7. Finances

I hope that doing the exercise will help you determine your current position and encourage you to move forward in the areas you need to.

The world is very focused on the mind – and we allow so many different voices to influence it. But really what we should be tending is our hearts. Of course our minds play a vital part in our lives as this is where we can reason and consider the best approach to take – but ultimately the peace we need, lies in our hearts. If we have fed ourselves with the bread of life and drunk from the life-giving water which is the Holy Spirit, our hearts will become the well that the truth of God’s word will flow from when you need it most.

When your mind is in utter turmoil about a decision, it is the Holy Spirit that will guide your heart into an incomprehensible peace. Tending and caring for your heart and what flows into it is of utmost importance.

A doctor is someone who will assess the situation and then provide a care plan to help you get better. In this story, you are the doctor playing the part of the assessor.  Based on what you’ve read thus far – what are the things in your life that need fixing?

  • Using the life areas described above – write down the areas you feel you need to change, develop or grow in.
  • Now for each of those, write where you would like to be in six months to one year. This is more realistic than trying to change things over 5 years. Six months to one year is enough time (and pressure) to implement things that can radically change your life.
  • Now write down only 3 things under each point – that you can implement within the next month that will start to improve your situation. Keep doing that on a monthly basis so that you can see or feel your progress.

The Holy Spirit is the true Healer and as you lean into and trust Him for guidance, he will bring the healing you need in order for you to excel at life.

Once you’ve implemented point 5 – Get set, Ready, and GO!

We all set the pace for our own lives and it’s up to you whether you’ll read this and forget about it, or actually do the exercises and implement the actions you wrote down.

You can talk about it as much as you want, but unless you do something about it – you’ll remain where you are.

7. IT'S OKAY IF YOU GIGGLE (this will only tickle a little)

Oh my goodness! My daughter knows how much I despise being tickled…but it doesn’t stop her from trying and she knows, inevitably, I’ll start to giggle.  Laughter is truly so good for the soul. (Read Proverbs 17:22).

Do things that make you happy. Call the friend that makes you laugh, spend time with people who uplift and encourage your soul.

It’s really exciting to see the progress you have made when you regularly stop to look back on your journey.  Life is meant to be enjoyed and when we walk in the destiny that God has called us too, life is just that much sweeter.

We’d love to see how you’ve implemented some of the above actions and how this has changed the way you do life. We'd love to hear from you - so do email us to: info@mightywomanofvalour.com and who knows, we may just share your testimony!

Lots of love, team MWOV
